The Human Rights Day commemoration event at Derrick Ferreira Stadium, in Kariega, Eastern Cape Province marked a significant milestone in the partnership between Nal'ibali and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture (DSAC). The event had the presence of Deputy President Paul Mashatile, who delivered a keynote address on this auspicious occasion. The Human Rights Commemorative event this year were held under the theme "Deepening a Culture of Social Justice and Human Rights," a clarion call for a renewed and strengthened commitment from all levels of society.

For the first time, a Nal’ibali Children's Reading Corner was incorporated into the festivities, showcasing the power of collaboration in promoting literacy and cultural awareness.  This partnership brought a children's reading corner to the Human Rights Day commemoration event in Eastern Cape Province, marking a significant step towards promoting a culture of reading among South African children.

The Nal'ibali Children's Reading Corner attracted over 250 children and their parents from the community of Rosedale and surroundings. Children enthusiastically engaged in a reading session where they interacted with age-appropriate children's books in their mother tongues, Afrikaans and IsiXhosa. They also enjoyed captivating storytelling sessions delivered by the well-trained Nal'ibali team. Reading Supplements were provided, allowing children to read independently and create engaging cutout booklets. Adding to the excitement, Noodle, the beloved Nal'ibali Mascot, was present to entertain the children further.

Suri Tsholetsane, Nal'ibali Communication Manager said, "We are thrilled to have been part of this significant event, celebrating human rights and fostering a love for reading in our young citizens. Literacy is not only a fundamental tool for personal growth but also a gateway to understanding and appreciating the diverse cultures and rights that make our nation great."

Nal'ibali eagerly looks forward to further involvement with the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture to ensure that children are aware of their South African identity and are included in activities that celebrate their heritage and the understanding of what is important to all South Africans.​
