This international invitation is a meaningful acknowledgement of the power of storytelling and the importance of South African voices in global literary spaces. It honours the everyday magic of what we do - helping children discover joy through reading, in the languages that feel like home. Nal’ibali is running a series of dialogues and conversations on leadership in literacy in cities and towns across the country. On Wednesday, 12th November we were joined by leaders from critical sectors such as education, early literacy, academia, business, government as well as funders for the Johannesburg leg of the dialogue. Nal'ibali aims to spark a love of stories, build language and literacy skills, and promote a lifelong reading culture in homes, schools, and communities across South Africa. Our reading-for-enjoyment campaign encourages the use of home languages to nurture and strengthen a reading culture in children as home language is transparent, easy to learn, and the first language with which children connect, allowing them to socialise and make sense of the world around them.
