GROWING THE LOVE FOR STORIES & READING

Play-based learning activities are essential for improving literacy skills because they encourage language development, improve story comprehension, and instill a love of reading and writing through engaging, hands-on experiences. Our Nal'ibali Free State team, in collaboration with Room to Read, the South African Congress for ECDs, South African Hope for ECDs, Lejweleputswa Libraries, and Cotlands, shared the joy of reading, storytelling, and games with the children of Thabong, Welkom, Free State. In addition to the fun literacy activities, our Nal'ibali team decked the venue with children's books and games for children, parents and ECD practitioners to play with. At the end of the program, the children received Nal'ibali goodie bags containing children's books and games. Through events with partners from the literacy space, and communities, Nal'ibali leverages the power of collaborations to empower South African children, one story at a time.
