This is where Nal’ibali’s work on the ground comes to life, bringing the love of stories to children all over the country.
We celebrate World Read Aloud Day every year by writing a special story in all 12 SA languages. This story is shared far and wide and we encourage caregivers to read this story to their children on the day.
During Mandela Month, Nal’ibali hosts reading-aloud sessions, and play-based learning activities and distributes reading materials together with partners across nine South African provinces.
Nal’ibali sees D.E.A.R as an opportunity to foster a culture of reading for enjoyment at schools, home, preschool, and in communities. The campaign encourages caregivers, teachers, and reading club leaders to drop everything and immerse themselves and their children in the power of stories once a week.
Nal’ibali uses Mother Language Day to raise awareness about the importance of all 12 South African languages in literacy development
The Nal’ibali Men’s Literacy Imbizo aims to upskill men in the literacy space and create a network of men who are interested in building a culture of reading for enjoyment in their communities. This platform provides a space where men can engage in issues affecting them as reading roles and share tips on how to grow as literacy activists. Nal’ibali provides support for the Men’s Literacy Imbizo members through literacy training, events, and creating more platforms where they can communicate with each other.
