In this edition, we talk about bringing home stories during the holiday period. This means time to relax a little as we enjoy being with family and friends, and more time to spend with stories and books! In our Story Corner, we have a story called ‘A promise is a promise’ by Wendy Hartmann, PLUS our cut-out-and-keep story entitled ‘The feast’ by Jude Daly and Jiggs Snaddon-Wood.
In this edition, we explore how stories can be used to heal and support children through difficult times. We also chat about our new and improved reading-for-enjoyment cellphone app with Mxit Reach, PLUS we share the cut-out-and-keep story entitled ‘A fish and a gift’ by Liesl Jobson, Jesse Breytenbach and Andy Thesen (BookDash).
In this edition, we celebrate picture books for International Picture Book Month. We also speak to South Africa’s famous author Niki Daly, PLUS we feature the exciting cut-and-keep story by Daly called ‘Next stop – Zanzibar’ (Pan Macmillan).

In this edition, we celebrate Nal’ibali’s “Story Power: Bring it Home” national awareness campaign, and look at how we use stories to explore our lives – past and present – and to dream about our future. Our cut-out-and-keep story is ‘Jojo’s wire car’ by Veronica Lamond (Random House Struik), PLUS we share an exclusive interview with the author about her career as a writer and illustrator.
In this issue, Gcina Mhlophe speaks to us about the heart of storytelling in Africa, and how our heritage and roots are imparted in every African tale. Actress, “Survivor” contestant and author Bonnie Henna writes about how reading aloud is the best way to spend time with your kids. And our cut-out-and-keep story is the beautifully-illustrated piece called ‘Shorty and Billy Boy’ by Gerard Sekoto (Jacana Media).
In this edition, we explore the importance of family stories and how they impact childrens' ideas of forgiveness, perseverance and honesty. We share some interesting facts about world-famous children's author Roald Dahl in celebration of his birthday. In addition, our cut-out-and-keep story is the heartwarming tale called ‘Theo and the Cat burglar’, by Wendy Hartmann and Joan Rankin.
In this edition, we explore the significance of Literacy Day: the role that reading and writing has in our lives, and the importance of global literacy. We also speak with 13-year-old Ammaarah Galant, who is the Public Relations Officers for the Young Authors Club in Cape Town, who tells us why she loves reading. And we feature the vibrant cut-out-and-keep story called ‘I know that!’, by Maryanne Bester and Shayle Bester (Jacana Media).
In this edition, John McCormick, author of ‘Dad, Tell Me a Story’, talks about how telling children stories at a young age gets them excited about reading stories later on in life. We share inspirational pieces of writing and drawing from two of our readers PLUS check out our cut-out-and-keep story ‘Tuft and Patch Play Games’ by Wendy Hartmann.
